Merck Supelco (Sigma-Aldrich) / Titan

####MAGENTO-BREADCRUMBS####

Titan UHPLC columns from Merck (Supelco) are made of monodisperse, fully porous silica gel. A new process is used to obtain particles with a sharp particle size distribution and to prevent the formation of particles that are too large or too small. This makes it possible to obtain an inexpensive, high-performance silica gel. The sharp distribution of the particles also has an effect on the efficiency of the analysis:

  • uniform packing bed: A term of the van Deemter equation is lower → higher efficiency
  • lower back pressure: higher flow rates and/or longer columns possible → faster analysis or more theoretical plates
  • smaller theoretical plate height: better column packing → higher efficiency compared to other providers
  • higher packing bed quality: columns are more stable → longer lifetime of the individual column
