Armorshell columns from ChromaNik consist of core-shell particles. These core-shell particles enable higher efficiency with a lower back pressure. In addition to this core-shell technology, the material also has a tandem TMS (trimethylsilane) endcapping. Subsequent treatment at over 200°C causes the remaining silanol groups to rearrange into siloxane groups. This results in a more efficient endcapping, which leads to a broad pH stability between 1 - 12. This makes this material comparable with hybrid materials from other manufacturers. Furthermore, the C18 groups are trifunctionally bound to the surface, which further increases the stability. Due to this complex endcapping, the Armorshell columns show an excellent peak shape for basic analytes.
