Obelisc columns are made of silica gel with Liquid Separation Cell (LISC) technology. LiSC is based on special chemical modification of the pores that creates a liquid separation cell with its own charge characteristics, ionic strength and hydrophobic properties. The positive and negative charges are separated by a long organic chain, so both charges can electrostatic interact simultaneously. Additionally, the high ionic strength in the cell provides a quick mass transfer of charged analytes in and out of the cell.
Obelsic R: positive charge close to the surface, negative charge separated by hydrophobic chain
Obelisc N: negative charge close to the surface, positive charge separated by hydrophilic chains
